ABOUT THIS LIVESTREAM:
Virtual Railfan’s LIVE train cameras at Muncie, Indiana, overlook both CSX's Indianapolis Line and Norfolk Southern's Frankfort and New Castle Districts.
The CSX Indianapolis Line Subdivision is a former New York Central (NYC) route, originally part of the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis Railway — better known as the "Big Four." This line runs east from Indianapolis toward Bellefontaine, Ohio, eventually reaching Cleveland. On average, 11 trains pass through per day, with a maximum authorized speed of 30 MPH.
The Norfolk Southern Frankfort District, once part of the Nickel Plate Road (NKP), was a key mainline connecting Peoria, Illinois, to Sandusky, Ohio. It passes through Bloomington, Lafayette, Frankfort, Muncie, Lima, and Fostoria. Today, it sees 5 trains per day, with a maximum speed of 40 MPH.
The Norfolk Southern New Castle District, also a former NKP route, has even older roots in the Fort Wayne, Muncie & Cincinnati Railroad. This line runs south from Fort Wayne through Muncie and remains a busy corridor, hosting approximately 24 trains per day with a maximum speed of just 15 MPH.
With this mix of modern rail traffic, Muncie offers a fascinating look at the two largest Class I Railroads east of the Mississippi River.
There is a radio feed available, an aggregate of both the NS and CSX frequencies: https://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/41114
