ABOUT THIS LIVESTREAM:
Virtual Railfan’s LIVE train camera in Cohutta, Georgia, sits between Norfolk Southern’s busy H Line and the quieter I Line, offering incredible views from local railfan Ed Painter's front yard.
The I Line traces its roots to the 1836 Hiwassee Railroad, one of the South’s earliest railroad ventures. Later incorporated into the East Tennessee, Virginia & Georgia Railway and eventually the Southern Railway, it once served as a major freight artery linking Atlanta with East Tennessee and beyond. An 1880s cutoff between Ooltewah and Cohutta created today’s H Line, shortening the route and becoming the region’s primary main line.
While the I Line now sees only occasional traffic, mostly Maintenance-of-Way and storage trains, the H Line remains a vital Norfolk Southern corridor, seeing roughly 30 trains each day, including intermodal, manifest, and coal traffic. Together, these lines tell the story of Southern railroading past and present.
